Jimi Agbaje Promises Rail For Ikorodu

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has promised to construct a light-rail system to unknot the traffic gridlock in Ikorodu and connect the town with other parts of Lagos.

Agbaje, who was on a visit to his paternal roots as part of his ongoing tour of all local governments in the state, said he recognised the harrowing experience the people suffer daily, trying to access other parts of the state.

On the construction going on between Ikorodu and Ojota road, Agbaje  said: "This road that they have been constructing for all these years have been inflicting suffering upon the people of Ikorodu. It is not designed to solve the traffic gridlock."

Agbaje said although the current regime in the state had embarked on some infrastructural developments, projects on ground were not commensurate with money reported to have been sent.

He claimed that most Lagosians did not have access to potable water, free health and affordable housing, as promised by the ruling party, accusing the government of under-funding education, which he said was why parents, disenchanted with the situation at the primary school level, opted for private schools.

Meanwhile, Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has berated Agbaje, over his comment on the state debt profile, describing him as an "inexperienced apprentice of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) "who, he said, state like Lagos cannot be committed into his hands.

Fashola said this on Monday, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally at Gbagada, adding that, "All the loans we incurred were used to develop infrastructure in the state and for the benefit of the people."

Agbaje was said to have during his campaign tour described Lagos as the most indebted state in the country.

According to Governor Fashola, Agbaje was not saying the truth because all the loans the state incurred were used to develop state infrastructure in the best interest of the state and her people.

Promising that development would be evenly spread in the state, Agbaje decried a situation where the Fasola-led administration concentrated development on the high-brow areas of Lagos.

"You must create Victoria Island in Ikorodu, Victoria Island in Epe, Victoria Island in Badagry and Victoria Island in Ajah. So that the infrastructural developments drawing people to Ikoyi can be found in Ikorodu," he said.

Fashola, however, speaking on security said that he felt the impact of insecurity because many people had relocated to Lagos as they could no longer stay in their respective states due to insurgency in part of the country, adding that what the PDP governorship candidate, Mr Agbaje, referred to as bold ideas in his campaigns promises is bold ignorance and bold inexperience that cannot move the state anywhere.

The governorship candidate of the APC, Akinwunmi Ambode, while addressing the crowd of supporters, challenged the PDP to provide the missing $20 billion oil money, saying that, "If we get that money roads would be constructed."

The APC candidate also berated the Federal Government over the N10 reduction in pump price of fuel, wondering whether that was the issue that would solve the problem in the country.
