If You Were an Employer, Would You Employ You?- Tolulope Oguntoyinbo (Famousoat)

Vacancy! Career Opportunities! Job openings! Recruitment! e.t.c. These and many more are captions you will find in the dailies, social media, and other form of media.
Whatever it is called, the question is: what does the CEO want to employ? Does he want to employ the graduate with the best result, or the pretty lady with an attractive smile and impeccable English or the guy with the highest qualifications?
Well, I think I can hear the CEO say ‘ability’; every CEO wants to employ ability because- Employ + Ability= Employability.
The word itself says employ ability, in other words hire ability.
What then qualifies you as ‘The Right Candidate?’
Understanding yourself: What are your values, interest and of course your abilities? Your values are the principles you want to live by and the beliefs that are important to you, while your interest are the things you enjoy doing.
Identifying your interests can help you recognize whether you would prefer to work with data, people or things.
Aptitudes and Abilities are also essential in determining what career fits you. An aptitude is your potential for learning a certain skill while ability is a skill you have already developed. Some examples of skills you could possess are self-esteem, creative thinking, adaptability, friendliness, decision making, coordinating event e.tc. For you to know which of your aptitudes and abilities match with a career, list them out and think of atleast one career that requires each of your skills.
Having a better understanding of yourself will help you know where you can fit in rather than sending your CV for every job openings.
Education and Training: you are a graduate already, Fine! You have all qualifications needed to be employed, Fabulous! But are you updated in your line of profession or are you the stereotyped graduate who waits until manna falls from heaven (little wonder you see graduates who have been out of schools for more than two years without any form of working experience). Trainings, volunteering and internship gives an applicant a cutting edge over others in this time of life.
Acquiring knowledge through these, means having more of what it takes to become Mr. / Miss. Employability.
Finding the right Job: finding the right job begins with a job lead. A job lead is information about a job opening and the following are means through which you can get one:
Networking: build your network by getting a referral from everyone you talk to. Just like the common parlance ‘you might know someone who knows someone who knows someone that can help you’

Employment agencies
Internet and
Job fair
Attitude: When talking about the principles of success, attitude cannot be left out. This also holds for one who wants to top the list of a 21st century employer because your attitude not your aptitude determines your altitude. As a graduate in the labor market, you need to do a check on yourself by asking yourself what makes up 100% of your life. Whether a glass is half-full or half-empty depends on the attitude of the person looking at it. A positive attitude is like a magnet that attracts a positive result. Change your attitude, get your dream job.

Wishing you the best in your job search.
