Nigeria's February Elections Postponed

INEC Chairman Prof Attahiru Jega has made it clear to Nigerians that the 2015 elections scheduled for Feb 14th and Feb 28th for the Presidency , State and National Assembly  respectively would now hold on March 28th and April 11 2015 .
Mr Jega who started the press briefing at exactly 11Pm spoke about the challenges facing INEC. He identified security issues in the North East Of Nigeria as a major issue facing the conduction of free and fair elections in Nigeria with the insurgents taking over a major region in the zone . He likewise added that security officials have asked for 6 weeks to curb the Boko haram insurgency to a bearable minimum so as to allow citizens in that area to exercise their franchise. He said he believed in their ability to do that.
Jega, while answering questions from journalists explained that INEC was not pressurized by the Presidency to postpone the election and that the new dates could not be contested in court if the election did hold.
