This week on our "ordinary people doing extraordinary things" column, we will be showcasing a passionate writer, Ayodeji Adeyemi.
‘Deji Adeyemi is the CEO and Lead Editor at The Conversation Series, an online company/blog saddled with the responsibility (among others), of creating a euphoric society through incisive, topical and interesting conversations from intelligent and experienced Nigerians. At the discussion round-table, www.theconversationseries.blogspot.com, voices of seasoned young Nigerians who are proving their mettles in their chosen fields are echoed through the internet and social media to the country and into the hitching ears of stakeholders.
He is also the State Coordinator of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Osun State Chapter. Likewise, he is the National Information Secretary (South-West) of the Society.
A writer, poet, freelance journalist and blogger, he has been published both in national and international newspapers, websites and blogs across the world. His maiden book, a compendium of poems titled ‘Cries from Soweto’ will hit the literary market within the second quarter of this year. He blogs at www.dhepen.blogspot.com His poems and conversations are testimonials to the fact that he is a patriotic Nigerian with varied views and thoughts on issues and individuals that affect the country and Africa as a Continent.
His colossal passion for writing and reading has motivated him to organize writing competitions and reading sessions for secondary school students in Nigeria, encouraging a vibrant reading culture and intellectual creativity. An aggressive and voracious reader himself, he so much believes in the importance of reading. He therefore encourages young Nigerians to imbibe the hallowed practice. It is so not uncommon to hear him say “Readers are not compulsorily writers but writers must be readers”. Readers to him are those born leaders as reading enlarges intellectual horizon and affords a cutting edge when it matters. Readers are problem solvers. To him, readers are way above their age and status.
With an actively strong social media presence, he can be reached either on Facebook: Ayodeji A. Adeyemi, Twitter: @smart_solomon, BBM: 53195491, LinkedIn: Adeyemi Ayodeji or email solomonhephzibah@gmail.com
Below is a poem he wrote, please enjoy:
TO THE CHILD BRIDE
YOU WILL NOT SEE ME COME!
MY SCENTS YOU WILL NOT SNIFF!
THE THOUGHTS OF MY MIND YOU WILL NOT READ!
NEVER WILL YOU CATCH THE WAVE OF MY DRIFT!
Through hazy days in your scary maze
I have suffered you in your crazy craze
I died in the flurry of your maids
Servants tied me to drown with no trace
I need not describe to you my face
You were there, cunningly amazed
Why then should I put forth my whitened hand?
Why need I lend you my drained strength?
Tell me,
Why I should cry for help
Alongside your shrunk frame
You! The nemesis of my virginity!
I did not beg to be sold into matrimony
I was just from my mother’s cradle
Your wealth tied my father to your throbbing groin
NO!!!
NOT YOUR NECK!
YOUR GROIN!
His servitude could not pay his life debt
So in your bed I found my body;
A toy for your wrinkled manhood
I will therefore not cringe as you fall off the cliff
Count me out!
I will not cry as you writhe in agony
I definitely will not weep as you weep for
A soothing balm from my sour palms
I have always longed for freedom
That you are going now is no fault of mine
You can’t blame me that you strove to ‘perform’
Your John Thomas is fit for the teeming termites
They could do better than stir the crooked thin
You pant through the night – as a mare
Like a depraved doe who lost her stag;
Her stag to the king of the forest after a hot chase
I cried like the doe should
But I am a survivor
I was built to last
I breathe in the breath of vigor;
Innocent vigor from the succulent breasts of my mother
I will live to tell the story
Goodbye old Willy
You just had to go for me to cum
